Travelling With Active Toddlers
Travelling with our little ones is one thing that most parents dread. They prepare a lot in advance for the same and spend a lot of time having anxiety attacks 😉
The first time I travelled with Mishkaa was when she was just 3 months old. That was her first trip to Mumbai by air and as much as I was fretting over taking her first time to Mumbai, which went super easy.
Her first train journey happened when she was 9 months old.
Based on my experiences of travelling with Mishkaa in all these years I have compiled a list of a few things that we should keep in mind before stepping out of the house.
- Comfortable Clothing
Though airport look is the in thing, but make sure that you dress you kid in most comfortable seasonal clothing. No fancy frocks or tight clothes. I always prefer to dress M in joggers/leggings and a comfortable loose T-shirt.
Blessed are the parents whose kids fall asleep while traveling. For all the others, this is the most important point to remember. M never sleeps on flights. She is up and charged, no matter the time of the flight or the duration.
I always like to carry some coloring sheets or her school work which she loves to do. That keeps her totally occupied. You can also keep a magic slate or some small toys as per your child’s liking.
- Snacks & Munchies
I always like to keep makhanas, chocos and namak pare. These are a few dry snacks that she relishes. You can also carry nuts and raisins or biscuits and cookies that your child may like.
Carrying water for your child in a comfortable to sip bottle is very important. Keep your child hydrated throughout the travel but keep the limit in check (one sip at a time) to make minimum visits to the washroom.
- Ear Plugs
Increased or decreased cabin pressure can cause pressure on the ears too making the child irritated. This can sometimes also cause pain. The only trick for this is to carry ear plugs or cotton balls for the child. You can also try feeding the baby or make them have water or a candy while take-offs and landing.
- Sugar Rush
This can be used when none of the above is working and the child becomes super cranky. Always carry their favorite fuss free chocolates, candies or lollipops. This will give them the sugar rush and will calm them down.
Also remember to keep in mind the convenience of other passengers. You can always take help from the airline staff. The only mantra is Keep Calm even if your child is cranky.
